In the United States, 7 out of 10 people who are blind are not employed; but every American deserves economic opportunity and independence. Every American deserves a meaningful job and a living wage.
The Arkansas Lighthouse mission is to improve occupational opportunity and public perception for Arkansans who are legally blind through community engagement, work skills enhancement and the production of quality goods and services.
The Lighthouse began in 1940 as the dream of blind Methodist minister, the late Rev. Jeff Smith. Rev. Smith, with the help of a few friends and a $100 donation, set up a small workshop behind the Arkansas School for the Blind.
